The abrogation of Article 370 has been the current government’s one of the most celebrated decisions by the people of India. We all are witness to the fact when a statement was made by the Home Minister on 5th August 2019 that a bill regarding the abrogation of Article 370 was presented and we can only remember the happiness of the public who came out on the streets and expressed their joy. It was evident when we saw a vast majority of people getting overwhelmed with joy and happiness and a certain fraction of elements in our society having a meltdown on the same. Article 370 does the job of reinvigorating the memories of the same and gives the audience an in-depth insight into this much sensitive.

The plot begins with Zooni (played by Yami Gautam) disguised as a local and tracking whereabouts of a terrorist who went by the name Burhan Wani. Her search comes to an end when Zonni and her fellow CRPF colleagues execute a successful operation that gets Buran killed. But this doesn’t go well with the authorities as they explain to her that Burhan’s encounter has not only garnered them hate and sympathy for him but also made him a martyr. She is soon transferred to Delhi to join a security force as a penalty. Tussling and coping with her memories of the past, a horrendous memory of her childhood related to someone of her own. She is a failure despite having accomplished the task that was of utmost importance. Then she gets recruited by Rajeshwari Swaminathan (Priyamani) which brings her on board with new teammates and a new mission. Although Rajeshwari hides the actual motive of assembling this new team it is further revealed that this in some or the other way related to Article 370 and will be something that will permanently metamorphosize the politics of Kashmir.

After seeing the movie one can easily deduce that this movie has been made after doing a lot of research. The plot explains every aspect involved in the process of abrogation with precision. There are very few movies except this and the “The Vaccine War” that have achieved this feat. The movie is technically well made and each character has played their part with perfection. The only weakest link in the movie was the character of Madhav Patel (played by Kiran Karmarkar). Not to say his performance was totally bad, but the dialogue delivery during the most popular scene “Jaan de denge Kashmir ke liye” fails to hit the mark. The character looks baffled and nervous. We all know the level of rage and aggression when the dialogue was delivered in the parliament. The performance of Arun Govil as the PM is just fine.  Article 370 sheds light on the most important events with a voice-over by Ajay Devgn who explains this issue meticulously.

Yami Gautam has aced the role of Zooni. Unlike other movies where the topic of women’s empowerment is used to promote women promiscuity and extramarital affairs. The portrayal of Yami’s character breaks this stereotype and stands out from the rest. The plot has been written in a way where none of the sexes have been defamed. Unlike other movies where men are shown as dumb and imbecile and need women’s guidance to excel.

Article 370 is a must-watch for the audience as it helps us understand the specifics behind this bill. Movies like this must be made occasionally to make the masses aware of the ongoing politics. This helps them build a perspective of their own and not be tricked by politicians. As this is an informative movie, no songs are shown which are out of context. As it is Aditya Dhar’s next directorial after URI which came in 2019, you can get some vibes in the filmmaking. You can see this movie but don’t keep any expectations of entertainment in the form of dance, songs, and romance. The movie is to the point, well written and well-executed. This movie highlights the success of the present government by removing Article 370 which in return helped establish peace and stability in Kashmir.
