India is a land of ancients and Sanatan Dharma is believed to be one of the oldest dharmas on the planet. And in the history of Sanatana Dharma, we have seven Chiranjeevis (immortals) who are said to exist on this planet and one of these Chiranjeevis is Lord Hanuman. Lord Hanuman is one of the most loved devtas in India. He is also referred to as Maruti, Pavanputra (son of the wind god), Kesari Nandan (son of Kesari, his father) & Anjanisuta(son of his mother Anjani). But the same which he is most revered by is Ramdoot(servant of Lord Rama). Hanuman is also believed to be eleventh ansh avatara or incarnation of Lord Shiva. He is worshipped in India causing people to consider him as a symbol of strength, valour, and courage. He is also considered to be the king of Vanaras and one of the most intelligent of all. This movie is entirely based on the glorification of Lord Hanuman and makes the audience feel connected to the powerhouse of strength Lord Hanuman is.

The movie Hanu Man takes place in the village of Anjandari. Hanumantu is a good-for-nothing guy who is infamous for being a shoplifter and has a skill for catapulting. The antagonist of the movie is played by Michael (Vinay Rai) who is obsessed with becoming a superhero. This obsession to become a superhero persuades him to do things that he shouldn’t have done in the first place. The path on which he sets out in pursuit of becoming a hero soon turns out to be a supervillain. Hanumantu is a guy with a devil-may-care attitude and would run away when confronted with a certain responsibility. One day he discovers a gem-like stone under the river that has supernatural powers but belongs to someone who people call during times of hopelessness and despair. But the stone has its condition to give powers to its bearer. When Michael learns about the mysterious object that Hanumantu has. He arrives in Anjanadri to acquire the stone and quench his thirst for becoming on the most powerful man in the universe. Further, a battle ensues between the villagers and Michael which would be remembered for a long time. The costume of the antagonist was also created and shown beautifully, making it stand out amongst other aspects of the movie. This will lead to the beginning of something darker.

The storyline is simple with no complicated elements between them. The performances of the artists are applaudable but sometimes the dialogues seem too funny to digest. The fight scenes are shot wonderfully leaving one or two. The rest will make you shout from the seat. The background score is sure to give you goosebumps. The set of village and nature surrounding the village have been crafted beautifully and give you the perfect vibe that will take you along with it to the place itself. The costumes, the night scenes, underwater scene have been beautifully shot. One of the things this movie stands out is the VFX. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the VFX given has been one of the most brilliant VFX effects we have ever seen in the history of Indian Cinema. Some VFX scenes were unnecessary and it would have been fine if they were excluded from the movie. Hanu Man is a visual spectacle overall. The huge statue of Lord Hanuman holding a mace in his hand is too good and gives us a picture that one would remember for a long time. The costume of the antagonist was also created and shown beautifully which makes it stand amongst the best superhero costumes globally. Action scenes could have been a bit more realistic and minimum effects could have been added as the VFX given for some action scenes in the climax look unreal. One of the scenes where a mysterious character describes lord Hanuman ill make you cheer for the seats. This was one of the best scenes in the movie.

Hanu Man is the beginning of a new cinematic universe brought to us by the Telugu Film industry. One thing is for sure this will create a major impact on the perception of Indian superheroes in India and will also make audiences outside of India familiar with them. Hanu Man gives us an insight into how Indian superheroes who are based on the principles of Sanatan Dharma will be. It will do the work of connecting the people of India with its roots.
