Lessons We Can Learn From Wake-Up Sid

1) Being Aware & Prudent

Every individual in this world has been faced with a situation where he has to make a choice and make decisions regarding his career, personal or family life. There are many examples around us of people who lack the vision and seriousness to make critical decisions and now they are in a place where no one wants to be in. Why does this happen? One of the most obvious reasons behind this is a lack of seriousness which is reflected in their attitude toward life. Here we call them Sids. Sid is a guy who never grew up to be an adult. In this movie we see the same scenario playing out. Sid was born into a rich family with a silver spoon in his mouth. He doesn’t have any goals, or ambitions to begin with. Who thinks that life is only for partying, hanging out with friends, and chilling, wakes up when things take a turn for the worse and is forced to leave his home. Further after a confrontation with his friend, he is made to reevaluate his choice and think about how he is going to spend his life by living off the money given by his father or by becoming a self-made man. Everyone has this phase in his life where he has to let go of his old habits and ingrain some new ones to reach someplace better in his life.

2) Figuring Out Your Passion & Capitalizing On It

Passion is a term that we hear very often and you’ll find someone on the internet doing some random activity that is of no value and calls it his passion. If we go by the standard definition of “passion” then passion is any activity you love to do despite the fact you are getting paid for it or not and applying it in your life, very soon you’ll see yourself on the edge of bankruptcy. Even a kid calls playing with marbles his passion. Passion should be something that you love to do, can provide value to the people, and can be monetized. If your passion doesn’t qualify for any of the said criteria. It is not passion but a complete waste of time. If your passion doesn’t tick all or at least two of the aforementioned criteria then you got to have multiple hobbies. Here I correlate passion with hobby because if you didn’t like whatever that you are doing it couldn’t have been your hobby in the first place. American political scientist Dr. Warren Farrel in his book “The Boy Crisis” mentions that every person should at least have two hobbies, one to earn him money and the second to make him happy.

3) Dedication Towards Your Goal

Everyone has certain goals in their mind which they want to achieve. They also have a vague roadmap in their mind that would help them achieve their goal. But what happens is when they set out, at first, they seem to be full of motivation but later on they give up. The reason for their downfall is a lack of dedication and discipline. Wake Up Sid teaches us the same. When Sid decides to work with a renowned photographer to learn new things and carve a niche for himself, he lets go of his friends and his old habits to improve. The success of an individual depends on the company he keeps. If a man has friends who are deadbeat losers, he cannot expect to win in any part of his life. Hence you should cut off such people from your circle and allow successful people in. Because you learn and experience those things that help in building a winning mindset.

4) Upbringing Of Parents

The parent’s role is most important in shaping the personality of the child. The behaviours adults exhibit have a direct relation to their upbringing during their childhood. The kind of parenting these kids experience shapes them into the individuals that we see. Sid’s parents can be seen blaming themselves for Sid’s failure. Looking at Sid’s father’s background we understand that he had a very humble beginning, his father had struggled hard to get where he is today. And give Sid everything because he never wanted Sid to go through the same. But this mindset led to Sid taking everything for granted and wasting his parent’s money. It is therefore mandatory for parents to know that giving their children what they ask for without any resistance will lead them to feel entitled to these benefits and never see the struggle behind the same.
