Once the emotional turmoil ends, we get up from our seats and leave yearning for another experience.
Movies provide an extra dimension to our life. They help us blend in the aura of the characters being played on screen. When we hear the word “MOVIE” we think of three hours spent in a dark room with sound-proof walls and dim lights illuminating the hall, creating an atmosphere of excitement and thrill. We get transported into a different world virtually where things get real. Movies have an immense ability to get our emotions racing and get our adrenaline high and stronger. They help us relax, forget the chaos of our boring lives, and enter a fantasy world. We live our lives vicariously through the movies.

Now completing the above speech, I recollect reading from an essay book, let’s Explore the Journey Through a Viewer’s Eyes. Entering a dimly lit room, with a bucket of popcorn in one hand and a flashing light from the phone we look for our seat with peeping eyes. Then after a series of unwanted commercials, the most awaited trailers, and a wonderfully composed national anthem, we brace ourselves for the next three hours waiting for the virtual ride to begin. And with the censor board’s certificate being shown on screen we witness vibrant colors on celluloid unfold in front of us. With our eyes fixed on the screen, we get hooked only to witness time passing by, taking us away from ourselves and getting glued to the characters we see show up one by one. We connect with them on a level that is beyond our imagination. We resonate with those characters whose backstory resembles not the whole but some part of our lives. We form deep connections with the characters we associate ourselves with most. Unknowingly we become a part of the story. We try to figure out the suspense in the plot. We laugh, we cry, we become sad as the script proceeds further to the end. We are suckers for plot twists and open endings that add to the ambiguity of plots. They make us scratch our brains and make us think about the unthinkable. If the movie fails to get our undivided attention, we explore the interiors of the room noticing intricate details much akin to a brilliantly decorated palace. We look at the hall’s size and gaze at the audience. We witness couples busy in their affairs and we see romance unfold if a movie lacks the same as if they are making up for it. We look back and glance upwards to see light gushing out of a square window like water gushing through a hose. As the movie reaches its climax, we witness people leaning forward, moving to the edge of their seats to see what happens in the next few minutes. Inadvertently deciding upon like how a jury does before giving the final verdict if the movie is a success or not. Once the emotional turmoil ends, we get up from our seats and leave yearning for another experience.
